The story

Problem, approach, and the outcome

About the client

The client is a US insurer whose platform takes customers through quote, coverage selection, and claims in a single journey. Those paths are revenue-critical and regulated, so a defect on any of them is a serious problem.

The insurer released frequently, but its regression coverage could not keep pace, leaving critical journeys exposed on every deploy.

The challenge

The quote and coverage flows carried many rating and eligibility permutations that manual testing could never exercise fully. Testers sampled a handful of cases and the rest went unverified.

With a fast release train, there was no time for a manual regression pass, so defects on critical paths reached customers. The mismatch between release cadence and testing capacity was the core problem.

The insurer needed dependable, repeatable coverage of every critical journey, running fast enough to keep up with the pipeline. Nothing critical could be allowed to go out unchecked.

Our approach

We automated the quote, coverage, and claims journeys in Selenium with Java and TestNG, using data-driven suites so a single test exercises many rating and eligibility permutations. Data-driven design is what gave broad coverage without a test explosion.

We wired the suites into Jenkins to run on each build, gating the release train and linking failures straight to the tracker. Critical paths were verified on every deploy, not sampled by hand.

We built the framework on stable page objects and isolated test data so it stayed reliable and maintainable as the product changed. The insurer's own engineers could extend it each sprint against new critical journeys.

Results
  • 100% of critical paths kept green
  • Quote, coverage, and claims journeys automated
  • Data-driven suites cover many rating permutations
  • Regression keeps pace with a fast release train
