The story

Problem, approach, and the outcome

About the client

The client is a UK retailer launching a consumer app to unify loyalty, offers, and checkout, backed by a significant marketing push. In consumer mobile, a weak launch and poor early ratings can sink an app before it finds its audience.

They needed to move quickly to hit a launch window, but not at the expense of the polish that store ratings and word of mouth depend on.

The challenge

The retailer needed a launch-quality app fast, tying loyalty, offers, and checkout into one experience without the clunky first release that sinks store ratings. Speed and quality both mattered, and neither could be sacrificed.

A poor launch would have burned the marketing push behind it and been hard to recover from, because early ratings are sticky and shape everything that follows. The first impression was effectively the only one that counted.

Speed and polish had to arrive together, across both iOS and Android, so the app felt native and reliable on day one. That is a demanding combination under a fixed launch window.

Our approach

We shipped a cross-platform app to move fast, while writing the performance-critical modules natively so nothing felt second-rate. That hybrid choice bought speed without compromising the parts users feel most.

Loyalty, offers, and checkout were unified into a single coherent flow rather than three bolted-together features, so the experience felt designed rather than assembled. Coherence is a large part of what earns a high rating.

We enforced crash and performance budgets from the first build, so quality was a gate, not an afterthought, and a staged rollout let us catch issues before the full launch audience arrived. The app hit the store already stable.

Results
  • 4.8-star store rating at launch
  • 200k users in the first 90 days
  • Loyalty, offers, and checkout in one flow
  • Crash and performance budgets enforced from build one
