Underwriting analytics dashboards for an insurer
Replaced 60 spreadsheets with one governed underwriting board pack for an insurer.

Problem, approach, and the outcome
The client is a UK insurer whose underwriting board pack was assembled by hand from dozens of spreadsheets each cycle. The board relies on this pack to steer the book, so its trustworthiness is material.
The manual assembly was slow and error-prone, and no two figures reconciled, which repeatedly stalled board discussions.
The underwriting board pack was assembled by hand from 60 spreadsheets every cycle, a slow and error-prone ritual. Producing it consumed time and introduced mistakes.
No two figures reconciled, so board discussions stalled on whose number to believe. The pack undermined the very decisions it was meant to inform.
The insurer needed a single, trustworthy, live view of underwriting performance. Reconciled, current numbers were the requirement.
We built a governed dashboard suite on one shared data model, with certified underwriting metrics defined once and reused everywhere. Defining each metric once is what makes the figures reconcile.
That replaced 60 hand-maintained spreadsheets with live, reconciled numbers the board can trust. The ritual of manual assembly disappeared.
Because the metrics are certified centrally, everyone argues from the same figures, and we worked with the underwriting team to agree the definitions so the pack reflected how they actually reason about the book. The board pack became a source of decisions, not disputes.
- 60 spreadsheets replaced by one pack
- Certified, reconciled underwriting metrics
- Board pack live, not hand-assembled
- Metric definitions agreed with underwriting up front
